Providing opportunities for children to recognise feelings, develop friendships and build their confidence and self esteem.

Examples of key outcomes

The examples below illustrate some of the Emotional Health & Wellbeing outcomes that a setting might achieve as a result of attaining Healthy Tots Status.

  • Children report they can understand their feelings and are becoming more confident in expressing and managing them.
  • Children report improvements in their relationships and that they know how to resolve conflicts.
  • Children report that other children are more welcoming and friendly.
  • Staff report better relationships with children and greater confidence in dealing with emotional difficulties where they arise.
  • Staff report they know how to support on more common emotional issues amongst children e.g. dealing with bereavement.
  • There is an increase in participation/involvement of parents/carers within the setting.

The Leicestershire Healthy Tots Programme is designed using the National Healthy Schools framework and is adapted for early years settings.

Having signed up to the Leicestershire Healthy Tots programme, one of your first steps should be to set up a task group involving staff and parents.
